其英文含义为：
icing on the cake means something good that happens in addition to another good thing.
锦上添花意味着，除了一个很好的事情发生以外还有另外一件好事。
跟其他许多用语相比，这个说法算是比较新颖的， 大概在20世纪中才出现。其概念非常明显易懂：蛋糕又甜又好吃，但是蛋糕上的icing （糖衣）更甜更好吃。所以就是指“好上加好，锦上添花”的意思啦。
这边要注意，Icing on the cake中的icing不是表示“结冰”，而是指“糖衣”，这对理解这个短语非常重要。
