1.     Effects of the Internet on People’s Lives

With the fantastic spurt in computer science, the Internet has become a household word. Today, it is impossible to think what life would be like without it.

The Internet, once was regarded as an amusing toy with no practical application, now has changed people’s ways’ of living：they can shop online and purchase different kinds of products without leaving home, which saves them a lot of time. People can visit historic places and beautiful scenery all over the world that have set up a home page. Above all, with a couple of clicks of the mouse, people can have access to all kinds of information, for example, the information of cloning, so that people can not only broaden their horizons enormously, but also catch up with the latest development in science and technology.

The new century is coming, which is a century of intense competition. To survive it, people should keep themselves well informed of the new development. 2.     China, next 50 years

From computer lessons in kindergarten to graduate degrees for the elderly, education over the next 50 years will become a lifelong pursuit.

Key to the expansion of education in the next 50 years will be the computer. In every kind of setting, the emphasis will be on individual instruction. Teaching in elementary grades will be streamlined not only according to ability and IQ but also on the basis of tests revealing how an individual brain works best and in what environment.

In a single classroom, computers will enable students to work at their own speeds and on different subjects at the same time. School programs will be much more responsive to what the students are capable of thinking, which minimize over-challenge and under-challenge.

Just because students will carry a personal computer instead of a book bag, teachers will not disappear. Computers will be effective in teaching subjects such as math, but in areas such as creative writing, where there are many different right answers, machine will never teach as effectively as people.

Use of television, computer and videotapes will also create classrooms in libraries, museums, and at home. As a result, futurists see a surge in public professors. In the next century, academia’s motto “publish or perish” could well become “perform or perish”.

The hope for the future is that as the opportunities for lifelong learning expand, computer literacy will become a basic right for all people.

3.     Ecology Gets priority

Because of exploitation of the environment by developed countries this century, the deterioration of the environment now threatens the existence of the human race. China remains the world’s largest developing country. Millions of its people still live in poverty, and population is increasing by 13 million a year despite a stringent birth-control policy. These factors constitute enormous difficulties for economic development, protection of the environment and the utilization of natural resources.

However, pollution prevention and control will be intensified, the policy of birth control will be upheld and economic policy must take the environment into account. New sources of pollution must be controlled before they constitute a major problem. The waste of natural resources should be reduced to a minimum, with greater emphasis placed on scientific and technological innovation that reduce energy consumption and expand the use of clearer sources. Both government controls and market mechanisms should be used in the battle against pollution and the public awareness about the environment must be lifted.

We should cross ethical, cultural, religious and ideological differences to make joint efforts today to curb pollution and protect the environment for sustained economic development, which is in the interest of all countries and of all people.(here is huajiemba)

4.     Why Do I Learn

Why do I learn? My friends asked me this question when I declined to be employed as a department director in a company with the salary of 5,000 yuan a month.

Certainly, I don’t learn because learning can bring me money and power. On the contrary, some books cost the sum I cannot afford. Nor do I learn because I want to get an academic degree or a diploma. In these years an academic degree or a diploma alone can’t guarantee an applicant job.

Why on earth do I learn? I learn because I want to explore the secret of nature and the society. I know there are uncountable questions to which the answers are beyond me. But this doesn’t frustrate my efforts to understand them within my limits as a human being. I learn because I am a member of Chinese people who are most active and vital force in our society. We think it our duty to learn. In transforming China into an advanced industrialized country, we are confronted with arduous tasks and our knowledge is far from adequate. So we must seek knowledge.

In my opinion, knowledge is very important. It enables us to get rid of ignorance and find out the ways of overcoming our difficulties. It is universally accepted that knowledge is power. This power is greater than a director’s, remolding our subjective world while changing the objective world. Knowledge is wealth, too. This wealth is precious, for it can’t be exhausted or stolen. Now that I have the chance to learn at college, why not ?
1.     How to Solve the Housing Problem in Big Cities

With the development of modern industry, more and more people are flowing into big cities. Accordingly, the housing problem in big cities is becoming more and more serious.

People have offered many solutions to this problem. I think building satellite cities in the suburbs is more practical. The fresh air and beautiful scenery in the suburbs will be appealing to the city citizens, who suffer a lot from air pollution, noises, etc. in the overcrowded city. With more people leaving the city, more space will be available for those remaining. The housing problem in big cities will thus be solved.

In the meantime, I’m against the opinion of utilizing the underground space to solve the problem. We can imagine how uncomfortable it will be to live under the ground, having to probe in the dark. The air there will be very stuffy. And the cost of building underground houses will be tremendous.

In brief, building satellite cities can not only improve the housing condition in big cities, but also provide a much better living environment. But the housing problem is very complicated. Perhaps people can hardly rely on only one way to solve the problem completely.

2.     A Problem Facing Our Society

Nowadays unemployment is becoming a serious problem facing our society. The reasons are twofold. The population is increasing so fast that it has outgrown the jobs available. The other reason is that more and more machines are replacing men because of the increase of technology. Consequently, many people are faced with the problem of unemployment.

The unemployed is a heavy burden to the family and society. Since young women can help with household chores, it is likely that young urban men have nothing to therefore, it is likely that they commit themselves to the wrong doings, or even turn to a life of crime.
